When I was young I always wanted to have a spare apartment, not to live in but to have a place which I could furnish with Ikea furniture only. ( I love Ikea as you might know) But as we live in a great house and we love to travel, there is no money left for a spare apartment. So I’ll keep it as one of my dreams…
But last weekend I got this great opportunity to stay at the Westcord hotel Delft, which is completely (or almost completely) furnished with Ikea stuff. That was really cool.
It starts in the lobby where you can relax in Stockholm easy chairs or play Ludo (like I did with my children) on one of the Ikea sofa’s…with a view on a yellow and blue building outside 😉
From the outside you might think that the hotel is a bit average. But it not! It has a very friendly and easy going atmosphere. With good natural light in it and it is very well decorated. I read that the Westcord hotels, there are more of them in Holland, is a Dutch brand. Shame on me that I did not know that!
The interior of the rooms we stayed in were beautiful and gave me some practical ideas for at home. I must write them down so I won’t forget them. Also the Ikea interior coffee table books in the rooms gave me new inspiration. And that is what I want if I travel, to get inspired!
If I travel somewhere I choose a hotel or apartment to stay in for different reasons. Sometimes I choose a place because of it’s location, it’s price or because it has something special.
If I was a tourist travelling to Delft there are a few hotels I would pick, depending on how I am travelling and with whom. The Westcord is a great place if you come to Delft by car (although the buss stop is not far from the hotel) . There is a large free parking and you can travel to Rotterdam and the Hague easily as it is situated next to the highway A13. You can even go to Amsterdam for a daytrip from here. And if you have an electric car like we do, you can charge it for free.
When you travel with children it is also a good choice. Mine got spoiled with some children’s stuff and there is enough space in the hotel. As my son has a gluten free diet, we decided to have dinner at Ikea, only a 2 minutes’ walk from the hotel. Children like that! To my big surprise the hotel had gluten free options for breakfast.
I would also choose it because of it’s interior. Who does not want to sleep in an Ikea hotel?! It is remarkable.
My husband wishes from now on that I will never speak about my dream again. Well, if I want to keep up dreaming I will have a coffee in the lobby of the Westcord hotel in Delft. I love that place!
